Auditors
The County Auditor is appointed every two years by the District Court Judges. The Auditor is responsible for the general oversight of all the officers of the County District, or State, who may by authorized or required by law to receive or collect any money, funds, fees or other property for the use of, or belonging to, the County, and shall see to the strict enforcement of the law governing county finances.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Directs preparation of reports, audits, and statements
- Directs preparation of operating budgets & controls
- Prepares recommendations of future plans
- Analyzes the financial status of the County
- Assures compliance with laws governing the auditors office
- Independently develops audit steps & detailed procedures
- Provides assistance to other departments, when reported
- Signs all authorizations & warrants
- Keeps abreast of new laws & developments & advises Commissioner's Court of same
- & supervises consolidation of accounting data & preparation of statements for management information
